Baseline noise and vibration surveys are most frequently required when new developments are planned or significant changes to existing activities are proposed. Typically, the survey is planned to monitor noise and vibration levels that are representative of the undisturbed or existing environment. The monitoring data may then be used to predict the effect of a proposed development / change on the noise or vibration climate and this data can be interpreted by our consultants to advise on noise and vibration management and control strategies.

Key elements of the surveys may include the following:

  • Continuous or attended short-term or long-term monitoring
  • Characterisation of the receiving environment
  • Baseline monitoring at sensitive receptors such as schools, hospitals, homes
  • Identification and impact assessment of existing noise and vibration sources

Data is often used for the purpose of impact assessment and may be used in Planning Applications, Oral Hearings and Licence or Permit Applications.
